Alone in Nature
In western Norway, at the end of Stardalen valley, lies the small settlement of Fonn. The mountains here still carry the marks of the ice. Their smooth, almost polished surfaces reveal where the glacier once moved, shaping the landscape over thousands of years. Today, the glacier has retreated, leaving behind a vast and rugged valley.
Fonn takes its name from fonn, referring to the snow and ice that dominate these mountains, particularly during the long winter months. The glacier above is part of Jostedalsbreen, the largest glacier in mainland Norway.
What fascinates me most is not only the landscape, but the people who have chosen to make a home here. It is a remote and demanding place, exposed to the cold air flowing down from the glacier and surrounded by mountains that can feel almost overwhelming in their scale.
And yet, there are a few small houses at the foot of it all.
For me, that contrast is what makes this place so compelling: the darkness and weight of the mountains, the immense presence of the glacier, and the warm light touching the houses below. It speaks of a quiet determination of people choosing to belong to a place where nature is always present, powerful and close.
That is the feeling I wanted to convey in this image.
